Eastern Chiefs Triumph in Inaugural Tsumkwe Youth Cup

Tsumkwe: Eastern Chiefs FC secured victory at the first edition of the Tsumkwe Youth Cup open football tournament, held at the Tsumkwe Secondary School's sports field on Sunday. The local team made history by winning the inaugural event, which featured participation from 17 football teams.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Eastern Chiefs reached the pinnacle of success by defeating Western Chiefs with a single goal in the first semifinal, securing their spot in the final. The second semifinal saw Young Chiefs and Mountain Tigers locked in a draw, with neither team able to score during regular play. The match proceeded to penalty shootouts, where Young Chiefs emerged victorious with a 14-13 win, earning their place in the final.

In the culminating match, Eastern Chiefs clinched the championship title by overpowering Young Chiefs 4-2. The champions were awarded a trophy, N.dollars 4,000, and 20 gold medals. The runners-up, Young Chiefs, received N.dollars 2,000 and 20 silver medals. Western Chiefs and Mountain Tigers each took home N.dollars 500 and bronze medals for finishing third.

Djimi Kasius Katjire, head coach of Eastern Chiefs, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, attributing their success to effective preparation and strategic gameplay. He acknowledged the significant contributions of players Kahopo Elifas Mukosho and Kashera Erastus, commending their efforts throughout the tournament.

The tournament, organized by the National Youth Council, aimed to promote sports and foster unity among the youth from Tsumkwe and surrounding regions.
