Eastern Region, Burkina Faso – Colonel Hubert Yaméogo, the governor of the Eastern region in Burkina Faso, has instituted a ban on the use of tricycles across the region, with the exception of Fada N’Gourma. This prohibition will be in effect from December 30, 2023, to January 31, 2024, according to information obtained by the Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB).
According to Burkina Information Agency, by Colonel Yaméogo, specifies that the ban on tricycles, both during the day and night, will cover the entire regional territory, excluding the urban limits of Fada N’Gourma, which encompasses eleven sectors.
In addition to the tricycle ban, the press release also reminds the public of the ongoing prohibition on large-capacity motorcycles, such as Akoba, SANILI, and FORTUNE. This ban, effective in line with the decrees dated June 22 and August 3, 2022, includes restrictions on the importation, marketing, and free distribution of these motorcycles.
The primary objective of these measures is to support the ongoing efforts in combating terrorism by the Combatant Forces in the region.
Makueni, Kenya – In a significant crackdown on illegal animal slaughter, police in Kwa Kathoka, Makueni County, have arrested 10 individuals for the unlawful killing of 15 donkeys. The arrests occurred on Saturday morning in the village of Kwa Kathoka, situated in the Kikumini sub-location of Makueni Sub County.
According to Kenya News Agency, Eastern regional police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan reported the arrests, confirming that the suspects admitted to slaughtering the donkeys, which are believed to have been stolen. “An administrator reported the ongoing illegal slaughtering of suspected stolen donkeys, leading to police action,” Napeiyan said during a media briefing. The police swiftly responded, setting up an ambush on a feeder road where they intercepted two motor vehicles carrying the suspected donkey meat.
The vehicles, a Toyota Fielder (Reg. No. KDB 991U) and a Toyota Wish (Reg. No. KCK 434 M), were found transporting the meat to Shauri Moyo Market in Nairobi. Upon visiting the homestead where the slaughtering was reported, police discovered buried donkey hooves and heads, indicating that this illegal activity had been ongoing.
The suspects are currently detained at the Makueni Police Station and are awaiting their court arraignment.
This incident follows a recent arrest in Emali, Makueni County, where police detained a 55-year-old man involved in a similar illegal operation. In that case, police found the carcasses of nine donkeys and one live donkey in the village of Kiumone, located in the Ithumba location of Emali.
