KOSSI — In a poignant display of communal solidarity, the Christian community of the Nouna diocese in the Boucle du Mouhoun region observed Easter Sunday on March 31, 2024, at the Notre-Dame du Perpetual Secours Cathedral. The event was marked by a solemn mass, blessings, and prayers dedicated to the well-being of Burkina Faso amidst challenging times.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the high commissioner of the Kossi province, Noufo Dembelé, was present at the mass, leading a diverse delegation that included Muslims, traditionalists, and military and paramilitary personnel, symbolizing a united front across different faiths and sectors. Father René Simboro, presiding over the ceremony, lauded the Christian community’s conduct during Lent and underscored the significance of peace-making efforts, especially in Nouna, a town that has faced prolonged hardships due to terrorist blockades.

In his message, Father Simboro highlighted the economic strains on Nouna’s residents, emphasizing the necessity of a modest lifestyle under the current circumstances. The service concluded with a benediction from Bishop Joseph Sama, who extended his message of unity and resilience to all city inhabitants, regardless of their religious or cultural backgrounds.

Bishop Sama appealed to civil society organizations and community leaders to embrace shared human and divine values, aiming to foster social cohesion. His message also conveyed wishes for healing and remembrance, offering prayers for the sick and the deceased within the community.
