Dutch National Charged by Seychelles Supreme Court for Importing Cannabis

VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES – The Seychelles Supreme Court has charged a Dutch citizen, Ernest Cezary Kosiek, with the importation of a controlled drug and conspiracy to import and traffick a controlled drug,

According to Seychelles News Agency, Kosiek, 30, was arrested at the Seychelles International Airport at Pointe Laure on October 13. He had arrived on a Qatar Airways flight carrying 900 grams of cannabis. This arrest makes Kosiek the fifth foreign national to be detained on drug-related charges in Seychelles in the month of October.

Earlier in the month, a Ugandan man and woman were arrested on October 5 with 800 grams of cocaine. They had arrived in Seychelles on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Additionally, on October 8, a woman from Malawi was arrested upon her arrival, also on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, and was found to be in possession of 1.1 kilograms of cocaine. On October 12, a Guinean woman was arrested with 315 grams of cocaine. She had arrived on the same Qatar Airways flight as Kosiek.

Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on the possession and use of illegal drugs.
