Drissa Coulibaly Appointed as Regional Director in Mining-Rich Hauts Bassins


BOBO-DIOULASSO – Drissa Coulibaly was officially installed as the Regional Director of Energy, Mines and Quarries in Hauts Bassins on Friday, April 19, 2024. The ceremony, held in Bobo-Dioulasso, marked his beginning in overseeing a region that holds 56 mining titles, 160 service stations, and two solar power plants.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the Hauts-Bassins region who spoke on behalf of the governor, the installation event was attended by various government bodies, a ministry delegation from Ouagadougou, and Coulibaly’s relatives and friends. The new regional director emphasized his readiness to address the responsibilities of his role through organizing and managing the Directorate with seriousness and integrity. He highlighted his commitment to uphold the directives of the central administration and to ensure the Directorate’s success and longevity.



Furthermore, the ceremony included speeches from Somdo and Doulaye Sanou, the Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of mines. They discussed the need for the creation of regional directorates and outlined the objectives of these entities. The officials called on Coulibaly to swiftly begin work to tackle the numerous challenges in the region, which include regulating and coordinating the activities of various stakeholders in accordance with existing laws.
