Dundo: The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) detained a 39-year-old citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the municipality of Dundo, Lunda-Norte province, for the alleged illegal possession of 422 diamond stones.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the SIC spokesperson, Graciano Lumanhi, disclosed that the alleged trafficker was apprehended while traveling in a vehicle that was stopped at the National Police checkpoint in the town of Candjamba. The arrest followed the individual's illegal crossing of the Furi-3 border with the diamonds.
Lumanhi stated that the arrest was the result of intelligence work conducted by specialists from the organized crime department linked to the SIC. This operation was carried out in partnership with other bodies of the Interior delegation.
The SIC spokesperson indicated that the individual is considered a repeat offender in diamond trafficking, aiming to introduce the minerals into Lucapa municipality for sale on the informal market.
The diamonds will be handed over to the state diamond company, ENDIAMA, to be traded, thereby generating revenue for the state.
