Luanda: The draft amendment to the Political Parties Law aims to strengthen justice, equal treatment, and respect for the autonomy of political parties and coalitions, in accordance with constitutional principles, Member of Parliament (MP) Faustino Mumbica said on Thursday. Speaking during the 8th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 4th Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly, he stated that it also aims to make the rules regarding the dissolution of political parties, as well as the creation and use of symbols by parties and coalitions, fairer.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the proposal, initiated by UNITA, seeks to limit individual exploitation within the scope of rights and benefits granted by law. It aims to ensure equal treatment among all political parties and guarantee respect for the autonomy and sovereign will of parties and coalitions, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic. The project also addresses rules for access to state benefits and reinforces the accountability requirements for political organizations.
In three of the articles, essential changes are concentrated that, according to the deputy, aim to guarantee greater rigor and balance in the national party system. He explained that the proposal was developed based on a comparative study of the legislation of countries with linguistic and geographical affinities with Angola, seeking to align national norms with international best practices.
Justino Mumbica highlighted that the Constitution of the Republic of Angola enshrines the principle of equal treatment among political parties, emphasizing the need to ensure respect for the autonomy and sovereign will of these organizations. The MP also argued that it is urgent to dignify political activity and strengthen the credibility of parties among citizens. "We need to make political parties increasingly serious institutions and politics a field of honor and dignity," he stated.
