Dr. Moumouni Zoungrana Appointed as Minister in Burkinabe Government Reshuffle

Burkina faso: Dr. Moumouni Zoungrana, a seasoned expert on the education system, has been appointed as the Minister of Secondary Education, Technical and Vocational Training in the newly reshuffled Burkinabe government led by Prime Minister Rimtalba Ou©draogo. His appointment took place on January 12, 2026, as part of the government's efforts to leverage his extensive experience in education and governance.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Zoungrana is recognized as a prominent figure in Burkinabe education, having served as a teacher and researcher at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University. His career spans primary, secondary, and university education, which has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape. Born in Sabc© (Bam) in 1973, Dr. Zoungrana began his professional journey as a primary school teacher in 1995, spending over a decade shaping young minds in basic education.

Dr. Zoungrana's academic pursuits led him to obtain a double doctorate in modern literature from the University of Ouagadougou and the University of Poitiers in 2012. As a specialist in oral literature and African cultures, he has made significant contributions as a senior lecturer, supervising dissertations, publishing scholarly works, and holding strategic administrative roles within the educational sector.

His previous government role as Director General of Customary Affairs and Traditions in 2022 saw him empower traditional authorities and promote social cohesion. Dr. Zoungrana is also known for his community-based peace initiatives, including organizing symposiums against violent extremism and fostering intercommunal reconciliation, earning him the title of Knight of the Order of the Stallion.

With proficiency in French and Moor©, and some knowledge of English, Dr. Zoungrana is expected to lead the Ministry of Secondary Education with a focus on integrating educational and socio-cultural realities of Burkina Faso into policy-making. Married and a father of two, he brings a personal commitment to advancing the educational system in the country.
