DPRK Leader Kim Jong Un Prioritizes Economic and Defense Strength in National Day Address

Pyongyang – On the 76th anniversary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), leader Kim Jong Un emphasized the importance of accelerating economic development and enhancing national defense capabilities in a speech delivered at the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee headquarters.

According to Namibia Press Agency, during his National Day address on Monday, Kim Jong Un, who serves as the general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, laid out a comprehensive state work plan. This plan was informed by a review of the country’s progress this year, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). Kim noted that the DPRK had achieved its economic growth targets, with key sectors like light industry and urban management set for further advancements.

Kim’s speech also highlighted achievements in agriculture, predicting favorable production rates and “fairly good harvests” anticipated for the remainder of the year. On the defense front, he credited significant research and production advancements in national defense for the DPRK’s continued military strength.

Furthermore, Kim underscored the strategic need to enhance productivity across key industries to meet and exceed production targets, especially in the construction sector where he called for meticulous attention to quality. The agricultural sector was also urged to not only meet this year’s farming objectives but to prepare rigorously for the next season.

Highlighting the strategic military environment, Kim pointed out the challenges posed by U.S.-led military alliances in the region, describing them as evolving into “a nuclear-based military bloc” that threatens the DPRK’s security. In response, he vowed to implement critical measures to sustain and enhance the DPRK’s military superiority, asserting that “strong power means a genuine peace and an absolute guarantee for the development of our state.”
