Dori: The criminal chamber of the High Court (TGI) of Dori sentenced a 43-year-old man, FS, a shop employee in Dori, to 15 years in prison, including 8 years of mandatory imprisonment and a 3,000,000 FCFA fine suspended, for raping an 8-year-old minor with the aid of a "sex toy" to imbue his talisman with the victim's blood for mystical purposes.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during the court proceedings, FS admitted to the charges when questioned by the president of the Dori High Court, Abdoul Dramane Ilboudo. FS recounted that the incident occurred on the night of July 6-7, 2021, at his home after sharing a meal with the victim. He then proceeded with the act, using a talisman made of skin stuffed with powder, which had two ends of different sizes, to assault the young girl.
FS stated that his intent was to utilize the victim's blood for mystical purposes. The victim's scream and subsequent fainting prompted FS to place her in a bag and dispose of her on a nearby rubbish pile. She was discovered the next morning, July 7, 2021, by a local resident who, upon noticing movement in the bag, rescued her and took her to a health center in Dori. She was later transferred to Ouagadougou for further care.
FS expressed regret for his actions, noting that the victim was his neighbor, living with her mentally disabled mother in an adjoining courtyard. In his indictment, Yamtarba Kafando, the prosecutor of Faso at the TGI of Dori, sought a 17-year prison sentence and a 3,000,000 FCFA fine with a suspended sentence.
Ultimately, the president of the Dori High Court, Abdoul Dramane Ilboudo, sentenced FS to 15 years in prison, with 8 years mandatory and 7 years suspended, along with the fine. FS is currently held at the Dori detention and correction center, while the young girl, who suffers from a motor disability, is with her parents.
