Dori Embarks on Major Reforestation Initiative with 750 New Plants

DORI – In a significant effort to enhance local vegetation and combat environmental degradation, the Sahel Regional Environment Directorate successfully planted 750 caïlcedrats and flamboyants along a 4 km stretch on the outskirts of Dori, near the Dori-N’Diomga axis, from August 24 to 26, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional director of the Environment in the Sahel, the initiative is a critical component of Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to strengthen plant cover across the nation. This recent planting included varieties such as caïlcedrats and flamboyants with striking red flowers, aiming to bolster the local ecosystem’s resilience against climatic challenges.

The project was conducted in collaboration with the Liptako Water Agency and various environmental protection associations, emphasizing community involvement and sustainability. Lieutenant-Colonel Fogo highlighted the importance of local engagement, urging Dori residents to actively participate in the maintenance of these newly planted areas, which are protected by grilles to ensure their growth and survival.

This planting event is part of a broader campaign that kicked off on July 13, 2024, during which the town of Dori began its “Tree Month,” targeting the plantation of over 4,000 plants along various key routes including Dori-Djibo, Dori-Gorom, and Dori-Sebba, aimed at revitalizing the region’s green spaces.
