Dori Celebrates Tabaski 2024: Prayers for Peace in Burkina Faso

DORI — The Muslim faithful in Dori commemorated the Tabaski festival on Sunday, June 16, 2024, with prayers and symbolic rituals led by Imam Sita Diallo. The event took place on the esplanade of schools B and F, where the community gathered for a prayer session consisting of two rakat (prayer units) followed by a sermon.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Burkina Faso Information Agency and local attendee Ali Mamoudou Maiga, Imam Diallo performed the prayer units and, upon completion, delivered a sermon explaining the significance of immolation, the specific animals suitable for sacrifice, and appropriate conduct during the festival. His sermon also included prayers for health and the restoration of peace across Burkina Faso. The ceremony concluded with the symbolic sacrifice of a sheep by Imam Diallo, signifying permission for the faithful to engage in the traditional act of sacrifice, reminiscent of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of faith towards God.
