Disabled Individuals Severely Affected by Floods, Urgent Support Needed

Tana River: Chairman Mr. Said Babwoya has called for urgent intervention from the national government, county governments, and non-governmental organizations to assist disabled persons affected by the recent floods. Speaking in Hola town on Wednesday, he appealed to humanitarian organizations to provide essential supplies, including food, mosquito nets, blankets, and kitchen sets, to disabled individuals impacted by the flooding of River Tana due to heavy rainfall.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Babwoya, accompanied by Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Balo, highlighted that children, elderly persons, and disabled persons are the most vulnerable in flood situations and require special attention. He emphasized the dire situation of disabled persons, who face unique challenges due to their disabilities.

In addition to immediate relief supplies, Mr. Babwoya stressed the importance of providing medical drugs to disabled individuals, as floodwaters increase the risk of diseases such as diarrhea and malaria. These health issues require prompt and specific attention, particularly for disabled persons who are among the worst affected in the community.
