Direct Flights Between Chinese Mainland and India to Resume, Marking Diplomatic Progress

Beijing: China and India have reached an agreement to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India. This decision was announced following a meeting held on Monday between Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri in Beijing.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting focused on promoting the implementation of agreements reached by Chinese and Indian leaders during their recent meeting in Kazan. The discussions aimed to enhance China-India relations through a series of specific measures. These measures include India's support for China's role as the rotating chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and active participation in activities under its framework.

The two countries also agreed to use bilateral and multilateral platforms to engage in interactions at various levels, strengthen strategic communication, and increase political mutual trust. Additionally, both sides plan to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India in 2025 through media exchanges, Track II talks, and cultural exchanges.

Direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India are set to resume, facilitating personnel exchanges and the mutual dispatch of journalists. Plans to resume pilgrimages by Indian pilgrims to Xizang's sacred sites in 2025 were also discussed, with negotiations for arrangements to begin soon.

Moreover, the two countries will continue cooperation on cross-border rivers and aim to hold a new meeting of the expert level mechanism on this issue. The Chinese delegation emphasized the importance of both countries acting in their fundamental interests, handling relations strategically and constructively, and promoting positive dialogue and cooperation.

The meeting concluded with an open and in-depth exchange of views on issues of mutual concern, reflecting both sides' commitment to advancing China-India relations in a positive direction.
