Madrid: The Angolan Embassy in Spain recently organized a consultation meeting with the Angolan community residing in Spain, as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Angola's National Independence. The gathering, held at the Diplomatic Mission's premises, was attended by association leaders, students, professionals, missionaries, and other members of the Angolan diaspora. The meeting was chaired by the Angolan ambassador to Spain, Balbina da Silva, with the aim of strengthening ties between the Diplomatic Mission and the community by directly addressing the desires, challenges, and proposals of Angolan citizens in Spain.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ambassador Balbina da Silva emphasized the role of the community as a significant representative of Angola's effort and resilience on the international stage. She reiterated the Mission's commitment to citizen-centered diplomacy, improving consular public services, and enhancing the diaspora as a strategic asset for national development. The Ambassador committed to protecting the rights and interests of Angolans in Spain, focusing on students, professionals, women heads of families, and young people in training.

The Ambassador also discussed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation with Spain in sectors such as education, health, energy, agriculture, tourism, and culture. She promoted a modern and dynamic image of Angola aligned with economic diversification and regional integration goals.

During the meeting, the diplomat presented the Embassy's activity plan and emphasized the need for continuous dialogue with Angolan citizens. Key concerns identified included the consular registration process and the issuance of documents such as identity cards and criminal records.

Cristina Paulina, representing the psychology and community influence sector for SG, advocated for the creation of a social department within the Mission to support Angolans, particularly young women in vulnerable situations. She highlighted the need for assistance in the orientation and integration of these citizens in Spain.

The Move Angola association highlighted issues such as legalizing the institution in Spain, support for Angolans in medical consultations with translation services, and the proposal to establish a "House of Angolan Culture."

Jean Barnab©, President of the Association for the Progress of the Angolan Nation in Spain, praised the Ambassador's proximity initiative and suggested organizing a business event to identify Angolan entrepreneurs in the country. He also proposed support for creating a national association of the Angolan diaspora in Spain.

Additionally, religious congregations and resident missionaries expressed their support, offering their parishes for collaboration in social and cultural support initiatives.

Ambassador Balbina Malheiros da Silva reaffirmed the Mission's commitment to fostering an environment of unity, trust, and cooperation. She highlighted the crucial role of Angolan youth, students, and entrepreneurs abroad as key players in the country's development. As part of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Independence celebrations, various cultural, economic, and social activities are planned, encouraging active participation from the Angolan community in Spain.

"We want to walk together. To make Angola's presence in Spain stronger, not only institutionally but also in the heart and daily life of each Angolan residing here," the Ambassador concluded.
