Mombasa: The Inspector General (IG) of Police, Douglas Kanja, has committed to improving the welfare of police officers and advancing the digitization of police services to enhance service delivery to citizens and ensure effective policing. Among the key processes set to be digitized is the Occurrence Book, which will allow complaints to be filed remotely, leveraging internet access via smartphones or laptops, eliminating the need for physical visits to police stations.

According to Kenya News Agency, IG Kanja made these remarks during the inauguration of the ultra-modern Mbaraki Police Station in Mvita constituency, a facility constructed through the National Government Constituency Development Fund. He also pledged to engage with the State Department of Housing and Urban Development to construct police housing under the Affordable Housing Programme.

The IG expressed gratitude to the officers for their dedication to maintaining law and order and voiced confidence that the new facility would play a significant role in reducing crime and enhancing safety in Mvita. He emphasized the importance of officers adhering to legal frameworks and encouraged collaboration between police and the community to bolster security.

Officers were urged to resist corruption and maintain integrity in their duties. ‘Let’s be satisfied with our salaries,’ Kanja stated. He was accompanied by Deputy IG Eliud Langat, who praised the new police station and highlighted the positive impact of a conducive working environment on police morale and performance.

Coast Regional Police Commander, Ali Nuno, affirmed the strategic importance of the new station, which will serve thousands of residents in Ganjoni and surrounding areas, who previously had to travel to distant stations to file complaints. He warned those causing unrest that their activities would no longer be tolerated.

Area MP Mohamed Machele called for ethical conduct among police officers, condemning instances of corruption and the misuse of power. He also appealed to the IG to provide additional resources, such as motor vehicles, to improve security patrols in the constituency.
