Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications launched the 19th edition of Digital Week on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Apollinaire Kyélem de Tambèla and supported by Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, Minister of Economy and Finance, along with Armand Badiel, National Director of the BCEAO. This year's edition is themed "Digital transformation and economic development: challenges of FinTech" and will gather specialists from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger for four days. According to Burkina Information Agency, the discussions will center on key topics such as the state of Mobile Money in Burkina Faso, dematerialization and electronic payment platforms, and the traceability and interoperability of digital identification systems. Crucial issues like combating money laundering and terrorism financing through digital platforms will also be on the agenda. FinTech's role as a driver of financial inclusion is a focal point of this edition. T hese technological innovations present new opportunities to democratize access to financial services and enhance transaction efficiency in a country facing significant economic and security challenges. The Minister of Economy and Finance emphasized the strategic importance of FinTech for financial inclusion, risk management, and the enhancement of Burkina Faso's economic performance. He highlighted the integration of digital technologies in public services, particularly through procedure dematerialization, as a means to better mobilize tax resources essential for national development. This edition of Digital Week aims to serve as a platform for constructive exchanges among national and regional stakeholders, enabling them to develop concrete recommendations for leveraging FinTech to create a more inclusive and sustainable financial future.
