DESSIE CITY – In a major boost to local development, Dessie City in the South Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region today inaugurated infrastructure projects valued at over 500 million Birr. These projects aim to meet the critical development needs of the city, located approximately 400 kilometers north of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Kasim Abera, the projects include new bus stations, asphalt roads in various parts of the city, and public pharmacies. These developments are expected to significantly enhance the living standards of the residents. Kasim emphasized that the projects, which include roads from Koshin-Ber-Gerado to Piasa-Medhanialem and the area around Wolo Hotel to the Mayor’s Office, were constructed with the active participation of both the government and the community.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent officials including the Deputy Chief Administrator of Amhara Region, Abdu Hussain, and the Deputy Mayor of Dessie City, Samuel Molalign. The event marks a significant milestone in addressing the long-standing infrastructure demands of the city’s inhabitants.
The launch of these projects follows a visit by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who inspected ongoing development efforts in Dessie City and interacted with local residents. The Prime Minister noted the extensive work being undertaken throughout the city, which he highlighted in a post on X, expressing his admiration for the progress made.
These newly inaugurated projects are part of a broader initiative to accelerate development while maintaining peace and stability within the city, reflecting a coordinated effort between regional and federal government bodies and the local community.
