Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis expressed the will of the Greek state to further deepen economic cooperation with the Slovak Republic, in his brief address at the opening of the Greece-Slovakia Green Growth Business Forum, held today in Athens.
The Deputy Minister underlined the timely nature of the initiative, as the Forum’s sessions cover critical sectors such as Renewable Energy, Fair Transition, Water Management, Waste Management, Electromechanics/Electromobility, and Information and Communication Technologies. As Mr. Fragogiannis pointed out, “Greece has demonstrated its clear political commitment to the green transition and the transformation of the country into a hub for the transport of clean energy, electricity, and hydrogen”. He added that, as part of this effort, Greece is looking for valuable allies and partners in the development of appropriate infrastructure and innovative technologies.
Secretary General for International Economic Affairs and Openness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis, highlighted the great potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as diversification of energy sources, security, and digital transformation. He also made mention of the remarkable changes that have taken place in recent years in both Slovakia and Greece, emphasizing that ” the reforms implemented by the Greek government have created the right economic climate for businesses to prosper and innovate, resulting in record Greek exports and a boom in investments”.
The Forum was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Athens, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Enterprise Greece, and the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO), on the occasion of the official visit of the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Caputova to Athens.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Enterprise Greece and SARIO, aiming at enhancing economic and trade relations between Greece and Slovakia.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary-General for International Economic Affairs also held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, State Secretary of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy Ingrid Brockova, and State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development Martin Kováč, They discussed prospects for further cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
