Deputy Minister Caley Declares Digital Literacy Essential for Namibia’s Educational Future


WINDHOEK – At the 6th sitting of the Children’s Parliament, Deputy Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Faustina Caley emphasized that digital literacy is crucial for the educational transformation in Namibia.



According to Namibia Press Agency, who spoke on the theme ‘Transforming Education in Namibia: The Future,’ it is vital for the education system to fully embrace technology and innovation. During her address, she highlighted the swift changes brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which necessitates an evolution in educational approaches to meet 21st-century demands. Caley pointed out that the incorporation of modern tools into classrooms is indispensable for enabling students to navigate an increasingly digital world.



She further elaborated on the importance of integrating technology into the curriculum, which she believes will open up access to vast information resources, enhancing students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills. These competencies are essential for preparing them for future occupations that are yet to emerge.



Caley also addressed the issue of educational equity, stressing the need to ensure that children from rural and marginalized communities receive the same educational opportunities as those in urban settings. She advocated for a collective effort to bridge existing gaps within the education system, thereby fostering a more equitable and prosperous society.



The Deputy Minister concluded her speech by urging collaboration to address global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and resource scarcity, emphasizing that Namibia should not fall behind in the global technological advancement.
