Defense Minister Stresses Technological Advancement for Armed Forces

Luanda: The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Lºcio do Amaral, reaffirmed on Tuesday in Angolan southern province of Hula that the international context of conflict compels Angola to equip itself with technology to ensure an effective response to national security challenges.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the retired general made these statements to the press in Lubango at the end of a two-day working visit to Hula, where he assessed the operations of the Southern Military Region (RMS) Command and the National Air Force (FAN).

The minister stated that Angola is committed to modernizing the National Air Force and the other branches of the Armed Forces (FAA) to strengthen the troops' operational capacity. He explained that realizing this process requires mobilizing financial resources commensurate with the sector's needs. The Government's goal is to achieve modernization, but this demands resources, not just good intentions.

Lºcio do Amaral expressed satisfaction with the level of organization and readiness of the military units visited, noting that the Southern Military Region continues to play a strategic role in defending national sovereignty. He recalled visiting the region a decade ago while serving as Army Commander, observing that progress has been made since then, although challenges remain that require further investment.

He reiterated the Executive's commitment to continue working to strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces, aiming to ensure a modern, prepared force suited to current demands. On the occasion, he called upon personnel from the Southern Military Region and the Second Air Region to maintain resilience, discipline, and patriotism, assuring them that the FAA command remains committed to creating better conditions for fulfilling the mission of defending the homeland.

Lºcio do Amaral met with the Governor of Hula, Nuno Mahapi, during this-his first visit to the province since assuming the role of Minister of National Defense.
