Defense and Security Forces Bolster Drug-Fighting Skills in Koudougou

Koudougou: About thirty actors from the defense and security forces (FDS) of the Nando region are participating, from June 8 to 10, 2026, in Koudougou, in a training session on the fight against drugs, initiated by the Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for the Fight Against Drugs (SP-CNLD).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training, organized in the meeting room of the Koudougou governorate, is part of the implementation of the 2026 annual work plan of the National Strategy for the Fight against Drugs (SNLD). It brings together representatives from the National Police, the National Gendarmerie, Water and Forestry, the Penitentiary Security Guard, Customs, and the Municipal Police.

At the opening of the proceedings, Divisional Police Commissioner Boukary Traor©, the permanent secretary of the National Committee for the Fight Against Drugs, indicated that the meeting aims to strengthen the capacities of operational actors in the detection of narcotics and the conduct of investigations. The effectiveness of the fight, he noted, depends not only on the seizure of illicit products but also on asset investigations to identify and seize assets acquired through drug trafficking revenues.

During the training, participants were equipped with knowledge on the organization of the fight against drugs in Burkina Faso, the legal framework in force, special investigation techniques, and methods of drug detection and identification. Trainers presented the different types of drugs, their methods of concealment, and the tools used for their detection.

Practical exercises enabled participants to familiarize themselves with detection kits and procedures for identifying suspicious substances. Discussions also focused on preventing drug use among young people, noting a worrying increase in the phenomenon, particularly in schools, where some students are involved in drug use and sometimes in dealing.

Faced with this situation, SP-CNLD's Boukary Traor© calls on school officials to increase vigilance within and around schools to prevent the infiltration of trafficking networks. Police captain Bernab© Bonkoungou, deputy central commissioner of Sapouy, emphasized that the training will allow participants to better identify different drugs, their methods of concealment, and detection techniques to fight more effectively against a phenomenon that threatens youth and public safety.

Through this initiative, the SP-CNLD aims to strengthen the skills of actors involved in the fight against drugs to improve the prevention and repression of trafficking throughout the territory.
