THIKA: The Ministry of Defence has pledged to enhance the welfare of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and their families, announcing a range of support initiatives during the 13th Kenya Defence Forces Day celebrations at Thika Garrison.
According to Kenya News Agency, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya expressed the government’s commitment to the well-being of both active and retired military personnel. “We are obligated as a ministry and nation to ensure that our serving recruits and the families of our fallen heroes receive the care and support they deserve. This commitment is reflected in our diverse range of support programmes, which include comprehensive healthcare services, financial empowerment initiatives, and educational benefits,” Tuya stated during her speech.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the government’s ongoing support for the families of fallen soldiers. This includes providing pension plans, scholarships for their children, and psychosocial programmes designed to help families cope
with loss and maintain resilience. “Every fallen soldier carries a poignant story, leaving behind a grieving family and a community that stands proud of their legacy. Kenya stands united in your sorrow and honours your resilience,” she added.
Tuya also praised the KDF for their role in combating banditry in the North Rift and their prompt response to national disasters such as floods, underscoring their commitment to the nation’s security and welfare.
The event also saw the unveiling of a book titled “Defenders of the Nation,” which provides a detailed history of the KDF from its beginnings as the King’s African Rifles to its status as a modern, agile force. Brigadier Stephen Huria, Commander of the Artillery Brigade, highlighted the importance of the publication. “It narrates the tales of our services, showcasing bravery during the Shifta movement alongside our steadfast dedication to diplomacy missions and philanthropic initiatives. The book stands as an accolade to the noblest ideals of service,” said Br

Additionally, a monument dedicated to the memory of the fallen heroes was unveiled, serving as a reminder of their sacrifices for the nation.
