Dédougou Hosts Conference on Competency-Based Education Approach

Dédougou – The annual conference of secondary education inspectors in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, chaired by the High Commissioner of Mouhoun province, Souleymane Nacanabo, took place in Dédougou on December 5, 2023. The conference’s theme was centered on “learning according to the Competency-Based Approach (CPA).”

According to Burkina Information Agency, representing the Governor at the event, the quest for quality education is a major priority for the country’s authorities. The annual conferences of secondary education inspectors are instrumental in aligning the educational vision with national aspirations. This year’s conference focused on strengthening the skills of general education inspectors in the Competency-Based Approach to Integration Pedagogy (APC/PI), in line with the curricular reforms being undertaken in the country.

The theme emphasized the need for secondary school supervisors to master basic concepts in APC/PI, develop integration situations, and design a correction grid for each discipline. It also highlighted the importance of proposing strategies for better practice in the evaluation of learning in APC and developing lesson sheets according to APC by discipline.

The High Commissioner, Souleymane Nacanabo, stressed the ongoing curricular reforms that span all levels of education, aiming to enhance the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of education. He noted that these reforms require a new posture from educational supervisors and appropriate frameworks to ensure teachers are equipped with the necessary skills to fulfill their mission.

“I invite you to invest fully in order to appropriate this educational approach to effectively conduct the supervision and educational training of teachers in our region,” Nacanabo urged the participants.

Dr. Denis Vimboué, the regional director of post-primary and secondary education in Boucle du Mouhoun, commended the resilience and dedication of education stakeholders. He expressed hope that the discussions would align with the government’s vision of achieving quality education for all, led by qualified and committed staff.

Over four days, the participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the main theme and workshop activities, focusing on the best strategies for successful implementation of the curriculum reforms.
