DÉDOUGOU — On Saturday, July 27, 2024, community leaders and internally displaced persons in Dédougou, under the guidance of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, participated in a crucial signing ceremony. This event formalized their commitment to maintain peace and manage tensions, reflecting a concerted effort to foster social cohesion amidst ongoing security challenges.

According to Burkina Information Agency, mediation advisor at the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, the signing ceremony represents a culmination of ongoing efforts to build unity among Dédougou’s residents. This initiative, set against the backdrop of increased internal displacements due to regional insecurity, focuses on easing tensions exacerbated by competition over scarce resources. The commitments signed include measures to improve communication and collaboration between displaced persons and host communities, aimed at ensuring the sustainable and peaceful use of local resources.

The event also marked the establishment of a commitment monitoring committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of these agreements. This development was welcomed by various local leaders, including Dieudonné Tougfo, President of the special delegation of the commune of Dédougou.
