DAURES: President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba inaugurated the Daures Green Hydrogen Agriculture Facility, a project aimed at enhancing food security and promoting agricultural innovation in Namibia. The facility, located at the hydrogen village, includes a seed propagation and seedling house designed to accommodate up to 200,000 seedlings across 16 tables, utilizing an innovative irrigation system.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the facility covers 0.3 hectares and cultivates various crops, including tomatoes, peppers, cabbages, cucumbers, and spinach. There are plans to donate 70,000 seedlings to different regions, marking the project’s commitment to community support and agricultural development. During the inauguration, President Mbumba acknowledged former President Hage Geingob’s foundational role in championing industries like green hydrogen, emphasizing the importance of youth and investor confidence in Namibia’s future. He highlighted agriculture’s critical role, noting that water and rural development are
key to the country’s progress, with the Daures Green Hydrogen plant integrating these sectors.
Chief Sakarias Seibeb of the Dure Daman Traditional Authority supported Mbumba’s views, noting the transformation of the Daures Constituency from barren land to a hub of modern infrastructure. He encouraged youth involvement, stressing self-reliance and resilience. “This is our project, and whether we fail or succeed, it will be by our own hands,” Seibeb stated. The initiative aims to strengthen food security and increase the availability of nutritious produce, with the first harvest already destined for a wholesaler in Walvis Bay to supply vegetables to Woermann Brock stores in the Erongo Region.
