Addis ababa: The Czech Republic will maintain its support for Ethiopia by focusing on sustainable landscape management to enhance the country’s climate resilience, announced the Czech Ambassador to Ethiopia during a professional forum held today.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the event titled “Enhancing Expert Partnerships to Strengthen Ethiopia’s Climate Resilience through Sustainable Landscape Management” was organized by People in Need in collaboration with the Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa. The forum drew together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to address the pressing challenges of climate change and its impacts on natural resource management.

The gathering aimed to foster collaborative efforts to develop sustainable solutions for Ethiopia’s environmental challenges. Ambassador Miroslav Kosek highlighted the Czech Republic’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s climate adaptation strategies and the importance of international cooperation in this effort. “This event provides an opportunity t
o address one of the most pressing challenges of our time: adapting to climate change and protecting landscapes for future generations,” Kosek stated.

He also emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change and the necessity for immediate action. “Ethiopia has been a priority country for our development cooperation. We are dedicated to building sustainable solutions through partnerships involving key stakeholders,” said Kosek, affirming the ongoing commitment to innovation and collaborative efforts to assist Ethiopia.

Mitiku Ayela, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, discussed the significant challenges Ethiopia faces, including climate change, deforestation, and land degradation. He noted the importance of both celebrating achievements and confronting the realities of natural resource management. “We gather here not only to celebrate our collective achievements but also to confront the formidable realities of natural resource management and climate change,” he said.

Ayela highlighted various initi
atives, such as the Green Legacy Initiative launched by the Prime Minister in 2019, which aims to combat deforestation and encourage tree planting. This initiative has notably increased Ethiopia’s forest coverage to 23 percent. He also called for further development partnerships and collaboration from the private sector and civil society.

Organizations like People in Need, supported by the Czech government and other donors, have contributed significantly through initiatives focused on sustainable land management, showcasing the potential of international cooperation in enhancing Ethiopia’s resilience to climate challenges.
