Windhoek: The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) and the Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) confirmed on Monday a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to network infrastructure and systems at the airports operator.
According to Namibia Press Agency, a joint statement revealed that NAC detected the breach on March 6, 2026, following network interruptions and operational anomalies. The incident involved unauthorized access to network infrastructure and administrative accounts. NAC reported that it immediately activated its internal response procedures to contain the impact, restoring services and assessing the operational disruption as limited.
The NAC further noted that there is currently no evidence of data exfiltration, although investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the access. NAM-CSIRT, housed at the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), is collaborating with NAC on recovery efforts and the eradication of the disruption source.
CRAN Executive for Communication and Consumer Relations, Mufaro Nesongano, emphasized that such incidents serve as a reminder for organizations to remain vigilant against digital threats, stating, "Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility."
The NAC has since implemented additional safeguards, including enhanced firewall controls, restricted administrative access, and improved monitoring systems to prevent a recurrence. NAM-CSIRT also urged organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity posture by implementing multifactor authentication and real-time monitoring of security events.
