Ouagadougou: Customary people celebrated Customs and Traditions Day this Thursday, May 15, 2025, in the presence of leaders of other religious denominations and administrative authorities of the province, in front of the court of the chief of the land of Solenzo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebrations in the B¨houn district, a stronghold of the Solenzo land chiefs, began early in the morning with the resonating sound of tom-toms and drums at around 7 o'clock, following rituals in the land chief's courtyard. The songs and voices of the griots rose up, calling the population to the celebration.
Men, women, and children gathered in front of the land chief's courtyard to demonstrate their attachment or support for tradition and customs. Leaders of different religious denominations and representatives of the communities living in Solenzo joined in the celebrations with the local people.
Traditional dances, awareness-raising sketches, and exhibitions of traditional objects such as oil lamps and grinding stones were presented to the population. The High Commissioner, Sanfi©nal© Joseph Sirima, along with directors and heads of provincial services, participated in this ceremony dedicated to traditions and customs.
"This is a time when customs speak and the words of the deceased are put into practice. We come together to respect our ancestors. This fosters cohesion and community. We implore our ancestors to bring peace to Solenzo and throughout the country," said Herv© Coulibaly, representative of the customary people.
The entire day was focused on rites and customs, aiming to revive ancestral values for the happiness of traditionalists and the entire population of Solenzo.
