Ondjiva: The General Hospital of Cunene General Simione Mucune has been hosting its 1st International Congress and Scientific Conference since Friday. This event aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and enhance the quality and humanization of health services.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the two-day event, themed "Caring for and Teaching One Population, One Nation in One Health," has brought together 583 healthcare specialists from various countries, including Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, South Africa, Rwanda, Cameroon, Portugal, Brazil, and Cuba. The congress coincides with the hospital's first anniversary celebrations, which are being observed this Saturday.
During the opening of the event, Hamilton Tavares, the director of Cunene General Hospital, provided a historical overview of the hospital. He emphasized its commitment to providing quality services and training staff for innovation and excellence in humanization. Dr. Agostinho Matamba, representing the Minister of Health, highlighted that the congress is timely as the country marks 50 years of independence.
Agostinho Matamba, also the director of the General Hospital of Cuanza Sul Comandante Raºl Daz Arguelles, congratulated participants, underscoring the importance of the congress and conference as platforms for sharing experiences and discussions. He noted that these exchanges are crucial for strengthening learning, partnerships, and developing recommendations for self-sustainability in healthcare.
The congress features national and international speakers addressing various topics, including malaria prevention, clinical characteristics of brain-dead diseases, patient safety, and cervical cancer prevention. Discussions also cover maternal health in Guinea-Bissau, uterine fibroids, HIV/AIDS impacts, diabetes complications, urological emergencies, and the challenges of early diagnosis of bladder cancer in Mozambique.
