Cuban Pres Díaz-Canel in Algeria: “We have high expectations of this visit”

ALGIERS, Nov 18 (NNN-ACN) — “We have high expectations of this visit,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez said upon his arrival in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, where he was welcomed by the Algerian Prime Minister Aiman Benabderrahmane and other high officials.

At an on-site meeting with his hosts, Díaz-Canel recalled that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz also visited Algeria, the country where Cuba began its long history of cooperation with many nations in the field of health, and pointed out that Cuba was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Algeria.

“We have many reasons to feel very happy to be here,” the head of state said, “as this visit responds to Cuba’s political and economic priorities and the country’s ongoing efforts to tackle the effects of the post-pandemic crisis that overwhelms the whole world, aggravated in our case by the U.S. blockade.”

Díaz-Canel’s program in Algeria includes a meeting with his counterpart and with members of the Cuban Medical Brigade and the Cuban Embassy, as well as visits to places of cultural and historical significance.

Diaz-Canel’s official visit to Algeria, which runs till Saturday, takes place in the context of celebrations for the 60th year of bilateral diplomatic and historic relations between the two countries, the minister wrote.
