Cuanza-Norte Records 62 Road Deaths in First Half of Current Year

Cuanza-norte: Sixty-two people died and 256 were injured as a result of 182 road accidents in the province of Cuanza-Norte in the first half of 2025. In the same period, the National Police Provincial Command (CPPN) recorded estimated material damages of over 163 billion kwanzas as a result of traffic accidents.

According to Angola Press News Agency, data from the CPPN's half-yearly report, which ANGOP had access to on Thursday, indicate that among the accidents recorded were 69 run-overs, 52 collisions between vehicles and motorcycles, 23 skids, 20 collisions between motorcycles, 15 rollovers, and three collisions with fixed obstacles. The report states that a total of 116 accidents involving motorcycles resulted in 36 deaths and 156 injuries.

Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 22 accidents, a decrease of two deaths, and a decrease of 99 injuries. The municipalities of Cazengo (provincial headquarters), with 64 incidents, and Lucala with 23, recorded the highest rate of road accidents.

Regarding crime, the province recorded a total of 904 crimes (down 32), of which 635 were solved, eleven of which involved the use of firearms. Among the types of crimes, 278 thefts, 234 assaults, 99 robberies, 24 murders, 15 cases of child sexual abuse, and 12 serious crimes stand out. The municipalities of Cazengo and Cambambe had the highest crime rates during the period under review.

Despite the increase in the number of crimes and accidents, the police consider the public safety situation in the province to be stable.
