Cross-Border Operation Leads to Arrest of Four in Murder Cases

POTCHEFSTROOM – In a coordinated effort, the Hawks Pretoria Serious Organised Crime and North West Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit arrested four individuals, including three men and one woman aged between 24 and 42, on the morning of Friday, December 1, 2023. The arrests took place in Mooinooi, with one of the suspects being a Detective Sergeant.

According to South African Police Service, the arrests followed a thorough investigation that connected the suspects to two separate murder cases. The first case involves the murder of 21-year-old Gift Mokati in March 2021, allegedly for an insurance claim. Additionally, the suspects were linked to the June 2023 murder of Lieutenant Colonel Mohajane, the Detective Branch Commander of Mooinooi, who was shot and killed at his residence in Hammanskraal.

Some of the suspects are also implicated in an illegal mining case and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 4, 2023, for the murder of Gift Mokati. The following day, they will appear in the Temba Magistrates’ Court for the murder of Lieutenant Colonel Mohajane.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the Provincial Police Commissioner, commended the collaborative efforts of the teams involved. He emphasized that justice must be served and any dishonesty within the South African Police Service ranks will not be tolerated.
