Zagreb: Croatian President Zoran Milanovic announced on Monday that Croatian soldiers will not participate in “other people’s wars,” specifically referring to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Milanovic emphasized that Croatia’s obligations are limited to those arising from its membership in the European Union and NATO, as stated in a Facebook post.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Milanovic clarified that Croatia is not bound by any political or military agreements from the so-called “Coalition of the Willing.” He asserted that the Croatian government lacks the authority to involve the country in new coalitions that might lead to the deployment of troops to Ukraine.
Milanovic has consistently voiced his opposition to sending Croatian troops to Ukraine. He has accused the United States and NATO of using Ukraine to wage a proxy war against Russia and has labeled the Western sanctions on Russia as “absurd” and “useless.”
In a previous statement in July, Milanovic called on Western leaders to renew dialogue with Russia as a means to help resolve the conflict.
