URIRI: Criminals in Uriri Sub-County have been put on notice by Deputy County Commissioner Lydiah Esige, who has declared that illegal activities will no longer be tolerated. The announcement was made during this year’s Mashujaa celebrations held at Oruba Primary School in South Kanyamkago.
According to Kenya News Agency, Ms. Esige’s warning comes on the heels of a surge in criminal activities, including attacks by gangs, property theft, increased incidents of home and house break-ins, motorbike thefts, and vandalism of power infrastructure. She called on residents to adopt the Nyumba Kumi initiative to combat crime, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and reporting suspicious activities.
Ms. Esige also addressed the issue of political unrest, highlighting the role of local security agencies in curbing the actions of political goons who disrupt funerals. The region has witnessed a rise in political violence, often resulting in injuries and damage to property. She underscored the constitutional
rights to freedom of association and speech, while also stressing the need for maintaining peace.
In addition to security concerns, the Deputy County Commissioner criticized parents who neglect their children’s education due to financial excuses, labeling such reasoning as irresponsible. She encouraged locals to register with the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) for healthcare benefits and acknowledged government efforts to enhance agriculture, education, health, housing, and industry for national development.
Ms. Esige’s remarks were supported by several local leaders who joined the Mashujaa celebrations. She stressed the significance of Mashujaa Day in honoring Kenyans who have made significant contributions to the nation.
