Crash Landing Reported at Otjiwarongo Airfield

Otjiwarongo: A light aircraft crash-landed at the Otjiwarongo airfield Wednesday morning after allegedly experiencing a mechanical failure during landing. All five occupants escaped unhurt.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Otjozondjupa Region, Deputy Commissioner Edna Nawa, informed Nampa on Thursday that the Cessna 210 aircraft, registration V5-MFZ, is owned by Scenic Air. Nawa stated the aircraft was landing at about 11h00 when its right wheel allegedly failed to extend.

As a result, the aircraft crash-landed on the runway and subsequently veered off to the side, coming to a complete stop in the grass area adjacent to the runway. The pilot and four passengers were on board at the time of the incident, and none of them sustained injuries.

Nawa added that officials from the Directorate of Aircraft Accident Investigations attended to the scene and conducted an on-site investigation. She mentioned that arrangements have been made for the damaged aircraft, which is under security guard, to be removed on Friday in the presence of officials from the accident investigations directorate.
