HOMA BAY: The County Government of Homa Bay has ventured into a number of collaborative partnerships as a new strategy to tackle maternal deaths in the County. The strategy will address the need for collective action, as the County is still struggling with a high rate of maternal deaths.

According to Kenya News Agency, Homa Bay County Chief Officer Health Dr. Kevin Osuri stated that the approach involves a comprehensive review and control of the causes surrounding prenatal deaths to address the issues before resulting in fatalities. Speaking during the second county Best Practices Conference with the theme ‘Leveraging on Universal Health Coverage,’ he underscored the importance of ensuring that no mother loses her life during childbirth.

Dr. Osuri emphasized that the strengthened network of partnerships seeks to enhance maternal health resources and streamline service delivery, improving outcomes for mothers and newborns. He noted that the objective of the conference was to evaluate effective health tools u
tilized over the past year to enhance service delivery. The event was attended by delegates from various health facilities from all over the Nyanza region.

Dr. Osuri added that the conference would also help in strengthening the connection with the national government and promoting the adoption of practices that could inform national health policies. On the other hand, the Director of Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL), Dr. Gathari Ndirangu, said the conference provided an avenue for peer-to-peer learning, allowing participants to exchange insights and strategies.

Dr. Ndirangu highlighted that the participants have an opportunity to gain knowledge about ongoing developments in the global health sector, fostering a broader understanding of international health trends.
