County Government Announces Scholarships for 500 Students

Kajiado – Kajiado County Government has announced a significant scholarship program that will benefit 500 students, allocating Sh40 million for educational support. Jeremiah ole Ncharo, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, stated that the scholarships would cater to learners at university, colleges, and secondary education levels in the upcoming year.

According to Kenya News Agency, the scholarships will focus on students pursuing courses in sectors like Engineering, ICT, Education, Health, Water, Agriculture, Fashion and Design, Housing, Environment, and Conservation. While the list of courses is comprehensive, priority will be given to areas aligning with Governor Lenku’s four-point agenda, including modulated pastoralism, livable towns, globally competitive education, and a climate-proofed physical environment.

Ncharo emphasized the county’s commitment to equitable distribution of scholarships, particularly encouraging applications from students belonging to vulnerable groups such as orphans, those from humble backgrounds, and people with disabilities (PWDs). To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Kajiado County, living in the ward they are applying from, admitted to a reputable training institution in Kenya, and come from a vulnerable family background.

Secondary school scholarships are also available for students who sat for the KCPE in 2023 and are eligible to join Form 1 in 2024. Eligibility criteria include attaining 300 marks and above in the KCPE, admission to a national or extra-county school, and being from a vulnerable background in Kajiado County.

The application process requires submission of duly filled forms and relevant attachments to the office of the respective ward administrator by December 29, 2023. Applicants will receive an application reference number upon submission of their forms.
