Correctional Service Van Overturns Transporting Inmates in Namibia


OMUTSEGWONDJAMBA, OMUTHIYA CONSTITUENCY — A van operated by the Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) carrying inmates overturned on Saturday at Omutsegwondjamba village, causing minor injuries to the inmates involved. The accident occurred on the B1 road, approximately 14 kilometers from Omuthiya as the vehicle was en route to the Evalistus Correctional Facility in Tsumeb from Oluno Prison.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the Oshikoto crime investigations coordinator with the Namibian Police Force, the incident happened around 15:30 on Saturday. The driver of the NCS van lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to the van overturning. While the inmates sustained minor injuries, the driver emerged unscathed from the incident.



No arrests have been made following the accident, and police investigations are ongoing to further understand the circumstances leading to the mishap.
