FOUNZAN — The Cooperative for the Provision of Agricultural Services (COPSA-C) held its General Assembly on Thursday, March 18, 2024, in Founzan, addressing the financial deficit encountered in 2023. The assembly was attended by local officials, members, and partners of the cooperative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Director of COPSA-C, the cooperative experienced a shortfall of 61 million CFA francs last year due to various challenges including the drop in prices of organic corn and soy, and issues related to the certification and marketing of organic soy. Additional problems such as the spoilage of over 21 tons of cowpeas and ongoing security concerns also contributed to the deficit.
Somé outlined a series of strategic measures aimed at revitalizing the cooperative’s operations. These include enhancing contractual agreements, improving marketing channels, expanding service offerings at COPSA-C branches, and introducing new job opportunities for women and youths. The assembly also discussed adopting new grain preservation techniques and semi-mechanized production methods.
The general assembly concluded with reaffirmed support from several partners and stakeholders, demonstrating a strong collective commitment to overcoming the cooperative’s recent challenges and ensuring its sustainability and growth in the agricultural sector.
