Construction of Koitalel Samoei University in Nandi Hills Resumes After Long Delay

Nairobi: The long-awaited construction of Koitalel Samoei University in Nandi Hills Sub County, Nandi County has finally resumed after the site was handed over to a new contractor.



According to Kenya News Agency, the stalled project, which initially received Sh. 250 million for its first phase, has now been allocated Sh900 million for the second phase under a new contractor from China. This development brings relief to the community, which has faced years of uncertainty as the project remained stalled.



The handover ceremony was marked by optimism, with the new contractor Ying Du from Oriole Home Limited and the principal of Koitalel Samoei University, Professor Winston Akala, signing the contract to commence construction. Professor Akala highlighted that the university will specialize in sports science, which he believes will nurture young talents in the region. He also commended the community for advocating for the institution, named after the Nandi legend.



Koitalel Samoei University Council Chairman, Professor Risley Kavu, expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress, noting that the main campus would be located in Nandi Hills Sub County, while the current Mosoriot Campus would serve as a branch. He emphasized the transparency of the procurement process and the forward momentum of the project.



Nandi East Deputy County Commissioner Ngalia Ndaya reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the project and ensuring security measures are in place to protect the construction area. He warned against any interference from local leaders and emphasized that no political activities would disrupt the construction.



Community steering committee chair, Edwin Tallam, praised the government for allocating funds for the university, noting its potential to positively impact the community by creating academic and business opportunities. He expressed gratitude to the government of Dr. William Samoei Ruto for backing the project.



The new contractor, Ying Du, committed to completing the project within a reasonable timeframe and announced plans to offer scholarships to 16 needy students in day secondary schools within Nandi Hills Sub County. Du expressed a strong commitment to delivering the project beyond expectations.
