OUAGADOUGOU — During his visit for a regional transport ministers’ meeting, Congolese Minister Honoré Sayi expressed unexpected pleasure regarding the security conditions in Ouagadougou, noting the absence of curfews and military presence in the streets which he found conducive to a good quality of life.
According to Burkina Information Agency, his observations were made while traversing the city extensively, which challenged prevailing negative perceptions about the Burkinabè capital’s safety. His comments came after a meeting with President Ibrahim Traoré at the 73rd session of the Ministerial Committee of the ASECNA member states’ Transport sector. Sayi’s positive remarks contrast sharply with past security concerns, including terrorist attacks at key locations such as the General Staff of the armed forces and the French embassy.
Since Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s assumption of leadership, Burkina Faso has seen a notable decline in insecurity, thanks to enhanced military efforts and community defense initiatives. This enhanced security environment has allowed Burkina Faso to host significant events and restore normalcy in many of its cities and towns, significantly reducing the number of displaced persons by resettling them in secured areas.
The ongoing security improvements in Burkina Faso represent a significant stride towards stabilizing the region and boosting its hospitality and event-hosting capabilities.
