Conclave to Elect New Pope May Convene Following Pope Francis’ Passing

Moscow: The conclave to elect a new pope may convene within 15 to 30 days, as announced by Auxiliary Bishop to the Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, Nicolai Dubinin. This statement follows the recent passing of Pope Francis.



According to Namibia Press Agency, earlier in the day, the Holy See confirmed that Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, shared that Pope Francis died at 5:35 GMT.



Bishop Dubinin expressed uncertainty regarding the exact timing but estimated the conclave could meet within 15 to 30 days or slightly longer. The conclave is a significant event where the election of a new pope takes place, and preparations are underway following the announcement of Pope Francis’ death.
