COMOÉ — The province of Comoé marked the 4th National Tree Day (JNA) on Saturday, June 22, 2024, by planting 340 trees, encompassing a diverse range of species aimed at bolstering local environmental resilience and development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Cascades Regional Environment Director, the planting event featured a variety of trees including yellow and red flamboyants, cassias, caïlcedrats, palm and oil palms, mango, and fig trees. This year’s theme, “Tree, a capital of resilience for endogenous development,” highlighted the integral role trees play in enhancing ecological and community health.
The initiative, launched by the Governor of the Cascades region, Florent Badabouè Bazié, served not only as a reforestation effort but also as an educational campaign to underline the importance of trees. Governor Bazié emphasized the multiple benefits of trees, such as providing fruits and leaves for consumption and medicinal purposes, and praised the community’s strong participation.
The governor further encouraged the continuation of tree planting across the region and endorsed the innovative approaches of this year’s JNA, which include initiatives like “I regreen my home, an institution, a grove, a happy event (marriage, baptism, etc.).” Additionally, the regional directive for the year encourages roadside tree planting, particularly along national road no. 7, to enhance the area’s aesthetic and environmental value.
