Community Mourns as Fisherman Drowns During Fishing Spree

Nyakach: A tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the residents of Nyakach, where a local fisherman, Joel Okech, drowned during a fishing expedition. Assistant County Commissioner Darwin Orina confirmed the accident and issued a warning to residents regarding the dangers of fishing in the current weather conditions.

According to Kenya News Agency, the region has been experiencing heavy rains and flooding, which have increased risks for those engaging in fishing activities in Kisumu County. He urged the community to exercise extreme caution, especially when venturing into the lake during this season. The body of the deceased was taken to Nyabondo Mission Hospital Mortuary, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.

Orina also emphasized the importance of heeding government warnings and messages, advising residents to remain vigilant. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and cautioned those who fish in ponds to wait until the rains subside before resuming their activities.
