Community Mobilization Launched for Naaba Saaga’s Palace Rehabilitation

Zam: The commune of Zam, in the province of Ganzourgou, hosted an official ceremony to launch a community mobilization for the rehabilitation of the palace of Naaba Saaga, the 43rd customary chief of Zam. Chaired by High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, the event gathered administrative, customary, and religious authorities, alongside local residents committed to preserving the cultural heritage of the area.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Naaba Saaga palace, constructed in 1947 using banco, holds significant historical value for the Ganzourgou province. High Commissioner Sorgho/Gouba highlighted its multifaceted role over the years, having served as a venue for community and administrative functions such as hosting missionaries, celebrating weddings and baptisms, and conducting courts of justice. Notably, it was the first multi-story building in the province.

The ceremony aimed to rally strong community support for the palace's rehabilitation, symbolizing the preservation of Naaba Saaga's legacy. The Kam Naaba of Zam, representing the project committee, explained that this initiative is the result of efforts that began in 2024, involving both community and administrative stakeholders. The project's goal is to transform the palace into a tourist attraction, benefiting both the province and the municipality.

The estimated cost for the rehabilitation is over 30 million CFA francs, with the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism contributing two million CFA francs. Kam Naaba called on the people of Ganzourgou and others to support the project.

Provincial director Camarade Si© Boro praised the project as a vital step in preserving Zam's cultural and historical legacy. She noted that the restoration will enhance the palace's social and community significance for future generations. The ceremony also featured blessings from traditional and religious leaders and performances by griots.
