Community members in Matoropong, near Reddersburg are working hand in hand with police to ensure that illegal firearms are removed from the streets.

On Friday 30 June 2023, Xhariep District Crime Intelligence and Reddersburg Visible Policing acted on an intelligence driven operation around Matoropong.

On the same day at about 08:00 members went to a given address and upon searching police found a Magnum pistol with an empty magazine. Police further found dagga.

A 20-year-old male was apprehended for unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of dagga. He is expected to appear before Reddersburg Magistrates’ Court soon. The confiscated firearm will be sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
