ZECCO — In an extraordinary display of community initiative, the residents of the rural commune of Zecco, located 40 km east of Pô and near the Ghanaian border, came together on Saturday, August 24, 2024, to repair a deteriorating stretch of national road no. 25 that is crucial for local connectivity.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the municipal coordinator of citizen monitoring in Zecco, the road had suffered significant damage due to rainwater. The community’s proactive effort underscores a commitment to self-help and collective responsibility, as the government alone cannot address all infrastructural challenges. Starting at 8 a.m., community members, including security forces (FDS), volunteer defense groups (VDP), and local populations, collaborated to fill potholes using laterite and stones, facilitated by tricycles, wheelbarrows, picks, and shovels.
The event was not just about physical labor; it also served as a morale booster, with older community members encouraging the youth actively participating in the repairs. The communal effort was further supported by a blessing from customary authorities, setting a positive tone for the day’s hard work.
The municipal coordination of the citizen watch praised the strong turnout and continued engagement of the community, stressing the importance of ongoing commitment to fully restore the 3 km section of the road. The next phase of the repair work is scheduled for September 14, 2024, continuing this remarkable example of local initiative and cooperation.
