Community Intervenes in Violent Robbery Attempt in Oshana Region, Two Suspects Arrested

OSHAKATI – Two individuals were apprehended following a violent robbery attempt in Akuniihole, Oshana Region, which resulted in community intervention and the suspects being hospitalized under police guard.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident unfolded around 17:30 on Thursday when the suspects attacked a fellow taxi passenger. The victim, originating from Okakonyambata village, was traveling to Akuniihole when the suspects, who boarded the taxi near Adolf location with Ondangwa as their intended destination, attempted to steal his cellphone and subsequently assaulted him with a knife.

The altercation took place as the taxi reached Akuniihole, leading to the victim throwing his cellphone outside the vehicle, which escalated the violence. Villagers at a nearby cucashop witnessed the incident and intervened, subduing and assaulting the suspects before police arrived at the scene.

Both suspects and the victim were transported to Onandjokwe District Hospital for medical treatment. One suspect sustained a serious head injury and is reported to be in critical condition. Police are continuing their investigation into the attempted robbery.
