Community-Driven Renovation Transforms School in Bagane

Dissin: A three-classroom building completely renovated by the inhabitants of Bagane, an eastern district of Dissin, was officially received by Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, the representative of the Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages (MEBAPLN). The renovation was made possible through the efforts of the Bagane-Biir-Gnow Taar association and the local community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the reception ceremony for the urgently rehabilitated premises took place with financial support from Waal¨ Der Rogatien Poda, Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). Present at the event were Minister Dingara’s technical advisor, Lucien HIen, co-sponsor and Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Anuuyirtole Roland Somda, along with many administrative, religious, and customary figures.

The event included a thanksgiving mass led by Mgr Kussi©l© Der Rapha«l Dabir©, Bishop of Di©bougou, and Mgr Birfuol¨ Laurent Dabir©, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bobo-Dioulasso. During the ceremony, Waal¨ Der Rogatien emphasized the importance of investing in education as a means of building the future. He stated that his support was an urgent measure to prevent the building’s collapse and expressed gratitude towards local authorities, urging the community to unite in overcoming educational challenges.

Mr. Souleymane Soulama, the director of the renovated school, commended the Bagane-Biir-Gnow Taar association and the donor for addressing the severe deterioration of the classrooms. The association also announced continued annual awards for the top ten students from CP1 to Terminale and a volunteer’s offer of a scholarship of 50,000 FCFA to five students annually for three to five years.

Minister of Sports Anuuyirtole Roland Somda pledged support by providing twenty tables and benches and donating five footballs to the school. He encouraged the community to address local needs, such as building latrines. The representative of the Minister of Education praised the initiative as exemplary.

The Head of the Dissin Basic Education District (CCEB) noted that this renovation alleviates significant challenges, as the area still has twenty classrooms under straw huts and eleven in severe disrepair.

The ceremony concluded with gratitude and unity, despite threatening rain that nearly interrupted the proceedings.
